Meditation in Reading and the Thames Valley

The Foundation Programme (FP)

Deepen your understanding and meditation practice on this unique study programme designed to help you develop wisdom, cultivate a good heart and maintain peace of mind, through systematic study and meditation. The Foundation Programme covers 5 essential subjects of Mahayana Buddhism, helping you to create a focused daily meditation practice and make genuine spiritual progress.

There are two Foundation Programmes at Shantideva Centre, both are taught by the Resident Teacher, Kelsang Wangmo.

Sunday FP 9am – 1.30pm
Subject: The Stages of the Path to Enlightenment
Book: ‘Joyful Path of Good Fortune’ by Geshe Kelsang Gyatso
This programme has breaks every three or four weeks and longer breaks over the holiday periods; allowing plenty of time for holidays and other activities.

Monday FP 6 – 9.30pm
Subject: Training the Mind
Book: ‘Universal Compassion’ by Geshe Kelsang Gyatso
This programme runs to normal school term time.

The secret of it’s success is the FP’s manageable commitments. Students enrol for one book or section of a book at a time ( a section usually lasting 1 academic year);  attend each class in that subject; study and try to memorise the essential points of each text; take an examination at the end of each section; and attend one beautiful chanted prayer session at the Centre each week.

Contact our Education Programme Coordinator for more information about enrolling or to arrange a taster session.
